'Influencers' See Lessons In Astrology, Marketing And Investment In Virat Kohli's IPL Win; Netizens Amused
LinkedIn, a space known for meaningful professional conversations and networking, is increasingly turning into a spot for self-proclaimed influencers to hijack and cash in on trending topics for attention. From political milestones to cricket victories, these 'influencers' miss no chance on achieving their goal of enhanced visbility by repurposing events into hollow life lessons at the cost of the authenticity of their content.
The latest example of this is the much-awaited IPL win for RCB and Virat Kohli, who finally got to lift the trophy after 18 years. But this historic win was swiftly repackaged into posts on "lessons" one can learn from it, which included entrepreneurship, spirituality, astrological alignment, leadership, branding, and even marketing.
These posts were drenched in trending hashtags and motivational jargon and had little to do with cricket, and everything to do with capturing the attention of the algorithm for traction, leaving netizens amused.
Influencers Share Lessons To Take From Virat Kohli's Win
An Instagram user Shubham Khurana shared a post on his account 'Coporatecomics,' which has since gone viral on social media. The post featured screenshots of LinkedIn posts that surfaced after RCB's win. Each post extracted a separate lesson by various LinkedIn 'influencers,' who detailed what one can learn from Virat Kohli's long-awaited victory.
One of the post said: "Virat Kohli showed us what it means to be an entrepreneur-- even on a cricket field". The post further included certain points that entrepreneurs should take note of such as staying loyal to your mission, being consistent, and remembering how success won't come overnight. "There will be years with no rewards, people will question your journey, growth may feel invisible, but your moment will come," the post read.
Another post linked Kohli's victory to astrology and how "everything is destined to come true!!" "Today's date: 3+6+2+0+5= 18 (Years 18, Jersey 18)" the post read. A third post was a lesson on management and leadership and said that the victory was the "magic of patience, belief, bhakti, and the sacred digit 18 — which all came together like a divine script".
One post was a lesson on investment and highlighted how Virat Kohli's career "mirror a long-term investor's journey". It was laced with hashtags on stock market, finance, and business. Another connected the IPL win to the "spirit of entrepreneurship," advising founders and builders to stick to their vision, never give up, and write their own legacy.
"No brand campaign could have taught us this better," another post read, which said that Kohli's victory isn't just a sports story, but a lesson on brand loyalty and marketing. The final LinkedIn post shared by the Instagram user showed how just trending hashtags were used excessively and seemed like a "lesson in using hashtags".
'Reeks Of Desperation': Internet Slams Infleuncers' Lessons
Mocking the LinkedIn influencers' lessons, Shubham Thakur captioned his post: "Congrats all your RCB fans. But open that other professional social networking app today at your own risk. Don’t say I didn’t warn you."
Netizens were left amused by the lessons and slammed LinkedIn users for picking up anything and converting it into a motivation post. "The quality of content on LinkedIn is just no words..... every post reeks of desperation," a social media user commented.
"The fact these LinkedIn squad is so active and great consultants to make the quick calculations," another wrote. Another joked: "RCB lifts the trophy after 18 years, here's what it taught me about b2b SaaS sales."
"Every influencer wants to extract the most out of a trending topic. Today its RCB winning IPL," another comment on the post read. "No entrepreneur will ever sustain losses for 18 years and be happy with positive EBITDA at last," a social media user commented.
