Strokes of brilliance: Karnal complex swimmers shine at contest
Twelve swimmers, who have been trained at the Indoor Sports Complex here, have won 42 medals at a district-level competition organised at the Karna Stadium swimming pool on Thursday.
Indoor Sports Complex is an ambitious project of Union Power Minister and former CM Manohar Lal Khattar, and has been constructed under the Smart City Project at a cost of Rs 44 crore. The complex houses two Olympics-level swimming pools, a five-court badminton hall, three fully equipped gym halls, a cross-fit training zone, and a yoga and meditation hall.
Davinder Lathar, who runs the complex, along with coaches and his team members, honoured the swimmers at the complex on Friday evening.
Lathar said Dristhi Khokhar, Unnati, Om Kajal, Radhya, Roshan, Satyam Sheron, Lohit Chawla, Kavya Sharma, Divena Bedi, Reyansh, Mavika, and Aarav Arora won 42 medals — 17 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze.
“It is a proud moment for us that our players showcased their talent at the district-level contest and won 42 medals,” Lathar said.
Parents appreciated the facilities being provided to sportspersons at the complex, and said it was a welcome step of the government to give it on lease to a private agency.
“We are getting well-maintained international facilities at the complex. We are happy that our kids performed well at the competition,” said Ankur, the father of a sportsperson.
Reetu Kadyan, a mother of two swimmers who practice here, said her both sons were performing well in swimming.
“We are thankful to the government, and the agency running the complex, for providing world-class facilities at affordable rates to Karnal residents,” said Kadyan.
