Migrant verification drive by Solan cops
In view of the rising influx of migrants in Solan, the district police have launched a campaign to verify their antecedents and register them. This initiative aims to strengthen security arrangements ahead of the summer festival and the upcoming three-day Shoolini Fair in Solan city.
The campaign gained momentum following reports of increasing migrant involvement in crimes such as thefts. The issue, highlighted by The Tribune, also prompted the neighbouring Sirmaur district to initiate a similar drive.
Solan SP Gaurav Singh said the police have verified the details of 328 migrant workers in May, whose stranger rolls have been issued and forwarded to their respective police stations. Over 20 individuals were found without valid identity documents. After completing the required formalities, they were sent back and entry into the district is now allowed only upon presentation of verified identity cards.
The SP added that the drive would continue in the coming days. Migrants were found working without verification at multiple construction sites and industrial units across the district. The ongoing campaign seeks to regulate the inflow of migrant workers and ensure public safety during the festive season.
