Three months on, no arrest in Colonel Bath assault case
The special investigation team (SIT) set up to probe the assault on Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath visited the city on Friday to collect evidence and recreate the crime scene.
Three months on, no arrest has been made in the case so far. The six-member team, led by Inspector Gyan Singh and including Chandigarh cops, visited the eatery where the Colonel and his son were allegedly assaulted on the night of March 13 over a parking dispute.
The two cars used in the crime and the victim’s car were brought to the spot outside the eatery. The team took some aerial views and used a drone, primarily for mapping the area.
Earlier, the team had visited Patiala on Tuesday but had to return as requisite permission was not taken from the authorities to fly a drone in the sensitive area. Colonel Bath’s wife Jaswinder Kaur, who was present at the spot when the crime scene was being recreated, said it had been 90 days since the incident took place, the four SHOs allegedly involved in the brutal assault were still roaming freely.
She claimed that eatery workers, who had narrated the incident earlier, were now backtracking from their statement. “We are natives of Punjab, but had to approach the UT Administration for a fair and impartial investigation. It speaks volumes about the credibility of the Punjab Police. The incident took place on March 13, while the case was registered 10 days later following the intervention of Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and huge public outrage,” she said.
