Satnam Singh Chahal, Executive Director of the North American Punjabi Association (NAPA), condemned the foundation stone ceremony held at Burlton Park, Jalandhar, where he said the name of Arvind Kejriwal was inscribed on the foundation stone, despite his holding no constitutional or official position in the government.

Chahal said, “It is deeply concerning and constitutionally inappropriate that the name of a person who is not even an elected representative or constitutional authority in Punjab, was featured so prominently on a public project’s foundation stone. This is a blatant violation of democratic norms and a direct insult to people and the elected government of Punjab.”

Chahal additionally claimed that labourers, tents, and other logistical support were brought in from Delhi for the event. “This is not only a deliberate neglect of local resources and workforce but also a blow to the self-respect of Punjabis. We have competent people, skilled workers, and event managers in Punjab who could have easily handled the occasion.”

Chahal said such actions reflect a worrying pattern of interference in Punjab governance by those who have no constitutional mandate in the state. He called on the government to uphold the dignity of its people and institutions and urged all political parties and civil society organisations to raise their voice against such undemocratic practices.

“This is not just about one event,” Chahal said, adding, “This is about the larger question of Punjab’s autonomy, constitutional integrity, and the pride of its people,” he added.
