Meet Qassem Basir: The powerful Iranian missile which is giving sleepless nights to Israel, US, its range is….

Iran unveiled the country’s latest solid-fueled ballistic missile called Qassem Basir, giving a severe headache to the United States and Israel. The ballistic missile is capable of reaching a range of 1,200 km and is specially designed to counter advanced missile defense systems like the US-made THAAD and Patriot. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) is a very powerful anti-ballistic missile defence system developed by the US. It can intercept and destroy short-, medium-, and intermediate-range ballistic missiles during flight. THAAD is the best in its class and works best in destroying short- and medium-range ballistic missiles at high altitude. There are reports that America sent a second THAAD battery to Israel last month.

Last year in October, United States deployed THAAD system to Israel as a measure to counter potential attacks from Iran and its proxies. This deployment enhances Israel’s existing missile defence capabilities and strengthens the US military’s regional air defense network.

Notably, Iran’s ballistic missile spells vengeance and has been named after Major General Qasem Soleimani. Soleimani was killed in a US’s drone strike in January 2020 when he was going to meet the Iraqi prime minister. The drone strike was ordered by US President Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport in Iraq. Qassem Soleimani was the commander of the Quds Force and held the second most powerful position in Iran, after Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Why Qassem Basir A Deadly Missile

Qassem Basir is Medium-Range Ballistic Missile that showcases a major advancement in Tehran’s missile capabilities. It is a successor to the Shahid Haj Qassem which was unveiled five years back in 2020. Having a reported range of 1,200 km and loaded with enhanced guidance systems, the Qassem Basir can easily penetrate advanced missile defence systems. This makes the missile a formidable asset in Iran’s military arsenal.

Qassem Basir’s Features

This missile has a two-stage solid-fuel propulsion system, enabling quick launch and safe storage, and has a 500 kg payload capacity. Its guidance system, combining electro-optical infrared seeking and inertial navigation, allows for target identification even without GPS. Furthermore, a maneuverable reentry vehicle (MaRV) provides high-speed evasive capabilities, improving its chances of evading interception.

It has a MaRV design that allows for unpredictable reentry trajectories. This quality complicates interception efforts by missile defence systems.

The Qassem Basir missile’s solid-fuel propulsion and mobile launch system improve its deployability and resistance to enemy attacks. Disguising its launch vehicles makes it harder to target. The missile’s modular design allows for mass production, potentially saturating enemy defences.

The Qassem Basir marks a significant leap in Iran’s missile technology. It gives the Middle East countries enhanced accuracy, survivability, and operational flexibility. As there is no record of its full impact, the missile undeniably strengthens Tehran’s capabilities and could reshape regional security dynamics.
