GNDU students’ body extends support to govt job aspirants

A large number of aspirants preparing for government jobs in Punjab gathered in protest against the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board (PSSSB) for deliberately delaying the recruitment process. These included students from Guru Nanak Dev University. Backing their demand, Sath, a student organisation from the university, said that despite the Punjab Government’s widespread claims of providing employment to the youth, the reality is that no major recruitment process has been completed in the last two years under the PSSSB.

Among the key issues raised by the protesting candidates is that the candidates who cleared exams for the post of clerk and jail warder posts have not been given dates for the required typing or physical tests. Examination dates for posts like Senior Assistant, Treasurer, Legal Clerk and Stenographer have been repeatedly announced and then postponed.

“Last year, a paper leak was reported in the Senior Assistant recruitment exam with evidence submitted to the Board. However, the Board has remained silent on the matter for nearly a year. In May 2022, notification for 792 posts of Village Development Officer (VDO) was issued, and application fees were collected from candidates. Even after nearly three years, the exam has not been conducted. Similarly, the Punjab Government, after assuming power in 2022, had announced the recruitment of 300 sub-inspectors in Punjab Police every year. Despite repeating this promise at every government event, only one such recruitment drive has been held in the past three years. Similarly, in September 2023, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the recruitment of 586 Patwaris, but the process is yet to begin, even after nearly two years,” said Jaskaran Singh, from Sath.

“Sath, the student organisation, extends full support to the youth of Punjab and urges the government to address their legitimate demands. We appeal to the Punjab Government to immediately resume and complete all pending recruitment processes and initiate new recruitments only then.”

Additionally, they urged the Punjab Government to enact a separate law ensuring 85 per cent reservation for the youth of Punjab in state government jobs, safeguarding their employment rights and future.
