Imtiaz Ali set to release new film with Diljit Dosanjh in April 2026

Director Imtiaz Ali is all set for a brand-new film with singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh, expected to hit theatres in April 2026, right around the time of Baisakhi. This is the second film for Ali and Dosanjh, following the much-loved film Amar Singh Chamkila, which too was released around Baisakhi in 2024 and was well-received by the audience.

The upcoming film promises to be a nostalgic and heartwarming tale of love and longing—two emotions that have always been beautifully explored in Ali's films. The story is expected to unite personal relationships with broader, more universal themes concerning society as a whole. The star-studded cast that will appear alongside Dosanjh in this film includes Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari.
When talking about the film, Imtiaz Ali quoted a lovely couplet by Urdu poet Momin Khan Momin: “Tum mere paas hote ho goya, Jab koi doosra nahin hota” (“You are with me, however, when there is no one else”)
He went on to reflect: “Can love really be lost? Can home be taken away from someone’s heart? This film has a big heart. It has a large canvas, yet is very personal. It is a story of a boy and a girl, but also of a country.”

An added bonus, Ali teams up with composer A. R. Rahman and lyricist Irshad Kamil for the film. The trio had previously created the iconic soundtracks for Rockstar, Tamasha, and Amar Singh Chamkila; so we can expect the music to tug at our heartstrings.
Pre-production on the film has already begun and cameras are scheduled to start shooting in August 2025.
