Elon Musk’s Starlink to launch in India soon; check release date, installation process, plans, price, speed, and more inside

New Delhi: Elon Musk, the wealthiest person in the world and the owner of satellite internet service Starlink, has reportedly said that the company is all geared up to launch its satellite internet service in India within the next two months. If this materialises then it will mark a defining moment in the country’s internet landscape as it reportedly offers high-speed connectivity across an expansive area.

Before Starlink, Eutelsat’s OneWeb and Reliance Jio have already been approved to provide satellite internet services by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to operate in India.

Starlink is already operating in over 100 countries and offering a range of residential and roaming plans. It is reported that for Indian users, it’s expected to be available in two tiers, “Residential Lite” for smaller households with lighter usage needs, and a “full Residential service” designed for higher data consumption.

This satellite service promises to provide high-speed internet access to remote and distant areas across India.

Starlink rates

As for the cost of Starlink, the company is expected to make it available the Standard Kit in India for around Rs 33,000. The Standard Kit will include the Starlink dish, a kickstand, a Gen 3 router, Starlink and AC cables, and a power supply unit. The Standard Kit is designed mainly for residential use and it will support routine internet needs like internet and web browsing, streaming, surfing, video conferencing, and online gaming. Monthly subscription plans for unlimited data are likely to range between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,200, says a report by the FE.

Starlink internet speed

Starlink is presently providing high-speed internet with speeds ranging from 25 Mbps to 220 Mbps. In fact, many users have reported constant speeds above 100 Mbps. Since it is a satellite based service, it does not require the usual fibre or mobile networks and provides smooth connectivity even in remote areas.

Starlink is operated by Starlink Services, owned by Elon Musk.
