4 held in three-month-old attempt-to-murder case
Three months after a firing incident Amritsar Cantonment police have arrested four persons on charges of attempt to murder and recovered a pistol without licence from their possession.
Those arrested were identified as Karanjit Singh, alias Karan, of Kamboh village, Ranjit Singh, alias Love, and Balwant Singh, alias Sodhi, of Rajasansi and Anmoldeep Singh, alias Pana, of Gumtala.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Shivdarshan Singh said Harpal Singh, a resident of Malawali village, told the police he was returning to his village from Sultanwind Road via Gumtala on March 12 and when he reached near Gumtala, Sahil, alias Saal, Sumit and Anmol, all residents of Gumtala were having arguments over some issue. He said Anmol and his accomplice Karan of Kamboh, Love and Sodhi of Rajasansi and Bittu Bhaiya of Nangali started abusing Sahil.
He said he knew all of them and therefore, he along with his friend money stopped their and tried to intervene and pacify them. But Anmol and his accomplices were adamant to harm and teach Sahil a lesson for messing with him. He said Karan took out a pistol and started firing in air and also fired at him with an intention to kill. The bullet hit him in the hips area and he fell on the ground. Following this Anmol and his accomplices fled the scene leaving their bike and scooter behind. He was rushed to a private hospital from where he was referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.
The ACP said the reason behind the incident was that both Sahil and Anmol were involved in pigeon rearing. They used to catch each other’s pigeons. He had intervened and broke a compromise between the two around three months ago. The accused kept a grudge and Karan shot him on the directions of Anmol.
The police had recovered two bullet shells and a live cartridge of .32 bore from the spot. During interrogation, Karan told the police that he had hidden the pistol along with three live bullets at a vacant place near Khairabad area which was recovered on his disclosure.
He said raids were on to nab absconding Bittu Bhaiya in the case.
