Youths caught with grenade sent to 7-day police custody

The Special Task Force (STF), Karnal, which had arrested two youths for possessing a hand grenade yesterday, today revealed that both are members of the Bhanu Rana gang. Both were produced in a court on Saturday and have been sent to seven days of police custody.

The duo, identified as Deepender and Adamaya, both aged 25 and residents of Sector-13, Karnal, were apprehended from the Baldi bypass area on Friday based on a tip-off received by the STF team. The grenade recovered from them was defused by the bomb disposal squad on Indri Road.

“We produced both the youth in the court. The court granted seven days police remand. We are now trying to determine the origin of the grenade, how they obtained it, and what their intentions were,” said Deepender Rana, Incharge, STF Karnal.

Rana confirmed that both accused have suspected links to the Bhanu Rana gang, though preliminary investigations suggest that neither has a prior criminal record.

Police are investigating whether the grenade was intended for use in an upcoming crime or as part of a gang intimidation tactic. Authorities are examining the accused’s call history, local contacts and potential accomplices to understand the full extent of their involvement.

“Our investigation is going on. We are collecting all possible evidence and trying to find the motive behind the possession of the explosive,” added Rana.
