Wine contractor shot dead in Kurukshetra

A wine contractor was shot dead by two unidentified shooters on Friday night near Mina Market along the Delhi-Ambala National Highway in Shahabad. The deceased was identified as Shantanu, a resident of Jhajjar. As per information, Shantanu had stopped near Mina Market to buy cigarettes when two unidentified assailants reached there on a two-wheeler and fired multiple shots at him. After the incident, the shooters managed to flee from the spot, while Shantanu was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors.

After getting information, senior police officials reached the spot and started investigation. However, the exact reason behind murder is yet to be disclosed by the police. A crime team reached the spot and secured evidence. The police recovered two-wheeler and empty cartridges from the spot.

In his complaint to the police Prince, a resident of Jhajjar, stated that he had been working as a driver for wine contractor Shantanu. On Friday, around 7.40 pm he along with in-charge of the Shahabad liquor vend area Aniket and Shantanu, left their office at Barara Chowk. As they reached near Mina Market, Shantanu asked Prince to stop the car, and he went out to buy cigarettes from a shop.

“Meanwhile, two youths arrived there on a two-wheeler and one of them opened fire at Shantanu. I hit assailants with the car and they managed to escape from the spot leaving their two-wheeler behind. Shantanu was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead," Prince stated to the police. A case was registered under Sections 103 (1) and 3 (5) of the BNS and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at the Shahabad police station.

The body of the deceased was handed over to the family after a board of doctors conducted a post-mortem at Lok Nayak Jai Parkash District Civil Hospital on Saturday.

Shahabad police station SHO Satish Kumar said, “Shantanu had suffered bullet injuries. His body has been handed over to the family. Various police teams have been working on the case and efforts are to nab shooters."

Meanwhile, a post on social media was shared in which a Kala Rana gang member claimed responsibility for the murder. About the alleged involvement Kala Rana gang, the SHO refused to comment and said that the matter was still under investigation. Sunil Kumar, DSP (Headquarter), said, “Seven teams of district police, STF Haryana and teams of adjoining districts are working on the case. The CCTV footage and other technical evidence are being collected."

A wine contractor said Shantanu had several liquor vends in Shahabad and Yamunanagar. He was getting threat calls and last night he was attacked.
