SGPC chief secy recalls instilling of Nanak’s philosophy in him by father
On the eve of Father’s Day, SGPC chief secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan recalled the role his father Mohinder Singh played in instilling Guru Nanak’s philosophy while raising him.
“This Father’s Day, I want to pay tributes to my father who instilled in me the philosophy of ‘Kirat Karo and Wand Chako’ throughout my upbringing,” he said.
Mannan, who became SGPC member from Jalandhar city in 2004, said he vividly remembered that he set up a manufacturing unit of pipe fittings in 1972 and worked hard to make it a success for the family. He never contested the SGPC elections as he was invariably occupied with business and taking care of the family. Yet he took time out to pay obeisance at a gurdwara daily. He ensured that the family not only took out Dasvandh but also equal time for the service of the Almighty in gurdwara and social life. These principles became consolidated family values, he stated.
Besides, he was in the local gurdwara management committee of Aman Nagar. His father passed away in 2002.
It was in 2016 that Mannan was elected a member of the executive and was appointed chief secretary in 2024.
