CM releases geriatric assessment manual
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has released a book titled ‘Geriatric Assessment’, jointly authored by Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, Vice-Chancellor HK Aggarwal; PGIMS Medical Superintendent Dr Kundan Mittal; and Director-General (Health Services) Dr Manish Bansal.
The book serves as a comprehensive manual tailored to primary healthcare providers.
“The book is a timely and essential resource designed to equip primary healthcare providers with the tools and knowledge needed to care effectively for the elderly. With increasing life expectancy and a growing geriatric population, the manual provides a structured approach to evaluating the physical, mental and social health of older adults,” said Dr Mittal.
The manual highlighted early detection of age-related issues, holistic patient care, and practical implementation at the grassroots level, he added.
“It marks a progressive step in strengthening geriatric care in India. This manual is not only a clinical guide but also a call to action for compassionate and competent care for our elderly population,” he said.
Dr Mittal added that, in addition to clinical guidelines, ‘Geriatric Assessment’ addressed common geriatric syndromes and focused on mental health and social wellbeing.
“This user-friendly guide bridges the gap between knowledge and real-world practice,” he said.
Aggarwal said the manual reflected a commitment to quality elderly care.
