Over 100 tourist buses fined for violations
In a recent late-night crackdown, the RTO flying squad of Kullu conducted a surprise check between Mandi and Pandoh on the Kiratpur-Manali highway in Mandi district, issuing challans to over 100 tourist and passenger buses. A total fine of Rs 2.72 lakh was collected on the spot during the operation.
Traffic Inspector Hemant Sharma, who led the operation, said the team first set up a checkpoint at Bindravani and later near Pandoh to thoroughly inspect vehicles. Documents of the buses, along with safety measures for passengers, were checked and numerous violations were found during the inspection.
Some vehicles lacked valid permits and high-security number plates. Others were using pressure horns and illegal modified lights, while several bus owners had unpaid taxes or missing Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates.
Inspector Sharma confirmed that all violators were issued challans immediately. Those who did not pay on-site have been instructed to deposit the fine at the RTO office, he added. He emphasised that such violations will not be tolerated and surprise inspections will continue, especially during the peak tourist season, to ensure the safety of travellers on Himachal’s roads.
