Delhi Cong to host job fair on June 19
The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) and the Indian Youth Congress will jointly organise a Mega Job Fair on June 19 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium. The event is being held to mark the birthday of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, whose consistent advocacy for employment generation has inspired the initiative.
DPCC president Devender Yadav announced that over 100 leading companies, including industry giants such as Flipkart, Airtel, HDFC Bank, Amazon, Mahindra, Tata, Hero, Samsung and Radisson, will participate in the fair. These firms are expected to offer direct recruitment to more than 5,000 unemployed youth from across Delhi.
Highlighting the vision behind the event, Yadav said, “Rahul Gandhi has always raised the issue of unemployment and inflation that are pushing young people into depression and substance abuse. This job fair is our effort to channel their energy into constructive and gainful employment.”
He emphasised that the job fair reflects Gandhi’s long-standing concern for India’s unemployed and working-class citizens. “Rahul Gandhi interacts regularly with truck drivers, tailors, vendors and workers across sectors to understand their challenges. This initiative is a step towards fulfilling his vision to empower the youth and bring them into the mainstream,” he added.
Yadav cited the success of similar job fairs held in Congress-ruled states such as Rajasthan, where large numbers of young people have benefitted. He also pointed to troubling unemployment data from April 2025, which recorded a 13.8 per cent jobless rate among youth aged 15–29, with urban areas performing worse at 17.2 per cent. The figures further revealed that nearly 28 million educated youth remain unemployed and around 100 million, mostly women, have exited the labour force entirely.
Accusing both the Modi government at the Centre and the former Kejriwal-led government in Delhi of failing to address the employment crisis, Yadav said, “Neither government made efforts to create new jobs or fill existing vacancies in departments. This apathy has driven youth towards despair and addiction.”
He recalled the Congress’s 15-year rule in Delhi, during which he said job creation remained a consistent priority. “We ensured youth had access to decent jobs in both the public and private sectors. This Mega Job Fair will again offer opportunities matching their qualifications and aspirations,” he said.
