6 held in ₹16L cyber scam over fake share investments
The Faridabad cyber police have arrested six individuals in connection with a cyber-fraud case involving more than Rs 16 lakh, committed under the pretext of share market investment. The accused have been taken into five-day police remand and are currently being questioned.
According to police, a resident of Sector 55, Faridabad, lodged a complaint stating that he had befriended a woman on Facebook, who claimed to be an employee of Wipro in Mumbai. Later, she persuaded him to invest in the share market and instructed him to download a mobile application. The complainant invested money, but when he attempted to withdraw it, he was intimidated with excuses about profit charges, credit score issues and threats of his account being frozen. He was ultimately duped of a total amount of Rs 16,35,886. An FIR was registered at the Cyber Police Station, NIT, Faridabad.
During investigation, the cyber police team arrested six individuals on Friday. The accused were identified as Sahil Khan, a resident of Udaipur; Laxman, of Gilundh village; Rajesh Ojha, Rahul and Surya Prakash Maru, residents of Bhilwara; and Hasan Khan, also a resident of Udaipur in Rajasthan.
“The accused provide accounts to the cyber fraudsters. Accused Sahil runs a hotel in Udaipur, Rahul is a BA pass and works in a private company in Bhilwara, Surya Prakash works in finance, and Laxman, Rajesh and Aayan are unemployed. The main accused, Dinesh, was arrested earlier in the case and we are questioning these accused,” said the spokesperson of Faridabad police.
