Helicopter Crashes Near Kedarnath, 7 Killed Including a Child Amid Bad Weather Conditions

A tragic helicopter crash occurred near Kedarnath early Saturday morning around 5:00 AM, claiming the lives of seven people, including a child. The helicopter had taken off from Kedarnath temple en route to Gaurikund when it went down, reportedly due to poor weather conditions. Rescue operations began immediately, with NDRF and SDRF teams reaching the site, but no survivors were found.The crash site was discovered roughly five kilometers from Guptkashi, where rescue teams recovered all charred bodies. Due to the condition of the remains, DNA testing has been ordered for identification. Among the deceased was a young girl, Tripti Singh, whose family has demanded accountability from the aviation companies operating in high-risk zones despite adverse weather.Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami convened an emergency meeting, announcing the suspension of all helicopter flights in the Kedarnath region and ordering the formulation of strict SOPs for mountain aviation operations. He emphasized that pilgrims' safety is the government's top priority and any negligence will not be tolerated.Authorities are also reviewing licenses of private operators, and a comprehensive review of Himalayan aviation services will be undertaken. Helicopter services will remain suspended for two days pending further safety evaluations.
