JAMMU, June 15: In a strong move against drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police booked a notorious drug peddler from the Miran Sahib area under the PIT-NDPS Act and lodged him in District Jail Udhampur.
The accused has been identified as Manpreet Singh alias Sartaj of Ward Number 2, Simbal Camp, Miran Sahib.
Police said multiple FIRs under the NDPS Act were already registered against him.
Despite being arrested several times, he continued to supply drugs to local youth in the area, they said.
As such, police said, a dossier under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act was prepared and forwarded to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, who issued the detention order.
Jammu and Kashmir Police said the accused had repeatedly secured bail in earlier cases but continued to engage in the drug trade for illegal profits.
“His detention is aimed at preventing further involvement in such criminal activities,” they said.
