WATCH: Liquor Bottles And Cigarette Packs Flood Tamhini Ghat, Sarasbaug, JM Road, And ARAI Hill In Pune; Shocking Littering Caught On Camera
While Punekars are known for their love for hills, parks, and ghats around the city, these areas — including Tamhini Ghat, Saras Baug, JM Road, and ARAI Hill — have been found studded with plastic bottles, liquor bottles, and cigarette waste.
In a video posted by an X user, shocking scenes from Tamhini Ghat revealed the extent of littering in the area. He wrote, "Garbage, garbage, garbage… This is the scene from Tamhini Ghat. Wherever you look, there is garbage, liquor bottles, water bottles, plastic, etc. Mother, why are you coming to see nature? Wherever you go in Pune, you will only see garbage. The city and nature is in a state of chaos."
Despite regular clean-up drives, the problem of littering continues to plague Pune’s public spaces.
During a clean-up drive by Pune Ploggers — Drive No: 567, Street Awareness Drive at JM Road, Pune — 15 volunteers collected 11 bags of plastic and 4 bags of liquor bottles.
Similarly, in Drive No: 568, Clean-up at Saras Baug, Pune, 16 volunteers gathered 10 bags of plastic and 2 bags of liquor bottles. Pune Ploggers shared glimpses from the drive and urged the public.
In Drive No: 565, Hill Cleanup at ARAI Tekdi, Pune, 16 volunteers collected 13 bags of plastic and 2 bags of liquor bottles. The group has also invited citizens to join the next clean-up at SM Joshi Bridge on the occasion of Environment Day.
