Pune Bridge Collapse: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Announces ₹5 Lakh Compensation For Victims' Families, PM Modi Assures Central Help (VIDEO)

Pune (Maharashtra), June 15: In a tragic incident, an old bridge collapsed over the Indrayani River near Talegaon Dabhade in Pune’s Maval area on Sunday. The bridge was located at Kundmala, a popular tourist spot.

At the time of the accident, many people were present at the site due to the weekend. The sudden collapse of the bridge is feared to have caused 25–30 people to fall into the river. So far, 2 deaths have been confirmed. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives.

CM Devendra Fadnavis Offers Support

CMO Maharashtra said, "CM Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the state government will provide a financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the bridge collapse incident on the Indrayani river near Talegaon in Pune district. Additionally, the state government will also bear the cost for the medical treatment of the injured."

Fadnavis also said that rescue operations are ongoing and all necessary support is being provided by the state administration.

Prime Minister Modi Speaks to Fadnavis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after reaching Cyprus, called Devendra Fadnavis and expressed deep sorrow over the incident. PM Modi assured full support from the Central Government for the ongoing rescue and relief efforts.

Fadnavis said, "Hon. PM Narendra Modi, after his arrival in Cyprus, called CM Devendra Fadnavis and inquired about the bridge collapse incident in Pune district and expressed deep grief over the incident. Hon PM assured the State Government of all required assistance in this relief operation."

Rescue Operations Underway

After the collapse, local police, disaster response teams and villagers quickly reached the site. However, rescue efforts are being slowed down due to heavy rainfall in the Maval region over the past two days, which has raised the river's water level.

According to the fire department, about 18-20 ambulances, rescue vans and fire tender boats have been sent to the area. Teams are searching for missing persons and helping those injured.

Ongoing Efforts

Authorities are urging people to stay away from the area as the situation remains dangerous. Rescue teams are working round the clock in challenging weather conditions.

The incident has deeply saddened the state and people across the country are expressing sympathy and calling for better safety measures at tourist sites.
