Mumbai Crime News: 23-Year-Old Arrested For Scooter Theft In Wadala Using Duplicate Key

Mumbai: In a swift operation, Mumbai Police arrested a 23-year-old man for stealing a scooter using a duplicate key in the Wadala area. The accused, identified as Brijesh Pyaresyam Prajapati, a resident of Chembur, was apprehended on the night of June 14 at 10:45 PM.

According to the police, the complainant, Ashokkumar Lalman Kanojia (55), a resident of Wadala, reported the theft of his matte grey Honda Activa (MH-01-DN-9921) worth ₹30,000 from the BPT (Bombay Port Trust) area. CCTV footage revealed the suspect entering and exiting through the BPT gate on the day of the incident, which helped in identifying him.

Acting on a tip-off, the police traced Brijesh to the Sai Temple area near P.D. Mello Road, where he was caught red-handed with the stolen vehicle. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the theft, and the duplicate key used in the crime was also recovered.

Following his arrest, he was taken for a medical examination at J.J. Hospital and later produced before the Esplanade court. Police have requested three days of custody to investigate the source of the duplicate key, how he obtained access to the BPT area, whether he had accomplices, and if he has a history of similar offences. The arrest was made under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, and further inquiries are underway.
