Meet actress, who lost her leg at 17, married against her family’s wishes, has no kids at 59, her name is…, husband is…
One of India’s highly-acclaimed actresses, Sudha Chandran needs no introduction. Despite being a phenomenal star and legendary dancers, her life took a shocking turn in 1981 when she met with a terrible accident. Her legs got injured so badly that doctors were left with no option other than to get it amputated. However, that setback didn’t made her quit her ambitions. Even with a prosthetic leg, she continued to dance and became one of the most prolific Bharatnatyam dancers.
While speaking to E-Times, Sudha recalled the tough time she faced post-accident. “I truly had no choice. There were only two paths for me: either I start walking again or I destroy my life. Honestly, I didn’t want to live after the accident. But it was my parents who became my strength and helped me bounce back. We often overlook the pivotal role our parents play in our lives. For me, they were the only reason I chose to keep moving forward. Without them, I don’t think I would have had any other reason to continue.” She said.
Soon after the accident, Sudha got her first break in Tamil film Mayuri. Her performance was recognised, and she instantly became audiences favourite. Soon, she got popular for her negative portrayals on both television and films.
On the personal front, Sudha Chandran got married to assistant director Ravi Dang in 1994. The couple fell in love at first sight, but faced several challenges in their relationship. Due to their different cultural backgrounds, their family was against them getting married. Eventually, the couple decided to elope and secretly tied the knot at a temple in Chembur.
After 29 years of marriage, Sudha and Ravi made a personal choice to not have kids. They also stood against adoption, stating that it didn’t align with their beliefs. The couple stood by this decision and focused on living together happily and satisfactorily.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Sudha Chandran was recently seen anchoring the TV show Crime Alert. She also had an enduring career in television, including roles in shows like Kaahin Kissi Roz, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Naagin.
