'All Land Borders Open': Iran Assures India As Embassy Relocates 1,500 Stranded Students Amid Israel Tensions

India has taken action to protect its citizens who are stranded in the conflict-affected area as tensions between Iran and Israel rise. Despite the ongoing hostilities and the closure of Iranian airspace, Iran has reportedly responded favourably to India's request for a safe evacuation, according to NDTV.

Thousands of Indians, including over 1,500 students—most of them from Jammu and Kashmir—remain stuck across several Iranian cities as the region continues to reel under air strikes. According to Tehran's official communication, while aircraft are now banned owing to security concerns, all land crossings remain accessible for evacuation purposes.

In a statement shared by Iran’s Foreign Ministry, as reported by NDTV citing the official announcement, the country assured full cooperation with Indian diplomatic missions and offered assistance in relocating both civilians and diplomats. “Given the current condition and the closure of the country’s airports, we inform that all land borders are open for crossing,” Tehran noted.

The Iranian government has requested that India submit detailed information, including the names and passport numbers of evacuees, vehicle details, preferred border crossing, and expected time of travel. This, officials said, would help coordinate a smooth and secure exit from Iranian territory.

The Indian Embassy in Tehran has increased its efforts to assist those impacted in the meanwhile. Embassy staff are assisting with the relocation of students to safer regions of Iran. “The Indian Embassy in Tehran is continuously monitoring the security situation… Other feasible options are also under examination,” India’s Ministry of External Affairs said, according to NDTV.

In an advisory issued Monday, the embassy urged Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin in Iran to remain calm, limit their movement, and follow local safety protocols. In order to gather crucial information from individuals requesting assistance, the mission also posted a Google form on its official X (previously Twitter) handle. A Telegram group has also been launched to disseminate verified updates in real-time.

The evacuation efforts come amid an intensifying conflict that began last week when Israel launched "Operation Rising Lion", a surprise military offensive that targeted Iran’s top military commanders and key nuclear facilities. Retaliatory airstrikes from Tehran in response led to a dangerous missile exchange between the two nations.

With Israel promising to escalate further and Iran threatening to "open the gates of hell," the situation remains precarious and neither side has indicated any intention of changing course.

As demonstrated by its diplomatic outreach and ongoing coordination with Iranian authorities, India is protecting its citizens in a rapidly evolving conflict zone with caution but speed.
