India vs England 2025: Shubman Gill’s side begin five-match series on Friday, full squad, schedule, TV Timing, live streaming details

Team India will begin a new chapter in Test cricket with a new skipper – Shubman Gill – at the helm. Gill’s first task will be a massive challenge against England in their own home as he begins a new World Test Championships (WTC) 2025-27 cycle with a five-match series beginning at Headingley in Leeds on Friday.

Indians have not managed to win a Test series in England since 2007 under the captaincy of Anil Kumble. They had the best chance to win a COVID-19-interrupted series in 2021 but failed to seal the deal as England won the postponed final Test to level the series at 2-2.

The fifth and final Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham was also the beginning the ‘Bazball’ era for England under head Brendon McCullum. Ben Stokes-led side chased down 378 to win in the fourth innings in just 76.4 overs thanks to centuries by Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow.

Gill’s team will face an uphill challenge in the absence of stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have announced their retirement from Test cricket last month. Their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will also not be available for all five Test and his workload will need to be managed.

Team India are coming into this series on the back of 6 Test losses in their last 8 Tests, which meant that they failed to qualify for the WTC 2025 final after being favourites to make their third successive final till late last year.
