Anurag Kashyap returns to crime genre with promising new directorial: 'It was like going back to my early days of filmmaking'

Fans of Anurag Kashyap who have been waiting to see another gritty and raw crime drama may be in for a treat as the filmmaker known for his intense and rooted stories is back with Nishaanchi, which is backed by Amazon MGM Studios. Even more exciting is the announcement that the film is going to theatres, with a theatrical release slated for September 19, 2025.
The film revolves around two brothers whose lives are dictated by the varied paths they chose. In his official statement, Kashyap said: "Nishaanchi is a story full of raw human emotions, love, lust, power, crime and punishment, betrayal, redemption and the consequences of it all. I have been extremely fortunate to find a bunch of good people and superb actors and my most beautiful crew to tell this story in the best possible way that I would have wanted."
Headlined by newcomer Aaishvary Thackeray, who began as an assistant director in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani. Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh are bankrolling the film under the banner of Jar Pictures jointly with Flip Films.
Aaishvary Thackeray's co-stars include Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Kumud Mishra in pivotal roles.
Kashyap added that the film had been in development since 2016 but he waited until the right studio came along to support his vision. "Amazon MGM loved it, believed in it, and became the wall behind us. This is exactly what happened with all my films that people love - they were backed by great producers and great Studios," he reflected. "Working with the team at Amazon MGM Studios has been an immensely rewarding and beautiful experience. It was like going back to my early days of filmmaking. We're excited, nervous, and can't wait to share the film with the audience to experience, when it releases in theatres this September."
