Dulquer Salmaan charts history, becomes first Malayalam actor to win Telangana State Film Award
Dulquer Salmaan has created history by becoming the first Malayalam cinema actor to win an award at the Telangana State Film Awards. He had won the Special Jury Award for his performance in Lucky Baskhar. The film is also his third consecutive blockbuster in the Telugu film industry.
Lucky Baskhar had swept the awards ceremony with four awards-Third Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay (Venky Atluri), Best Editor (Navin Nooli), and Salmaan’s Special Jury Award. Additionally his films, Mahanati and Sita Ramam, had been named as Best Film in the year 2018 and 2022, respectively.
A period drama thriller set against the backdrop of the 1992 Bombay Stock Exchange scam, Lucky Baskhar, released in five languages (Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi), was a pan-Indian blockbuster, drawing tremendous reception from audiences worldwide, across theatres and digital platforms.
Taking to Instagram to celebrate his win, Salmaan wrote:
“My journey in Telugu cinema has been nothing short of extraordinary. I’ve been blessed to find the most wonderful teams telling the most timeless stories. And fortunate enough to get these roles. To see every single film I’ve been part of get recognized, and almost all of them win Best Film in their respective years is a feeling I cannot describe or put down in words.
My heartfelt gratitude to the honourable Chief Minister Shri@revanthofficial Garu, the Telangana Government, the honourable Jury, my incredible co-actors, technician & crew on each of the films, and most of all the wonderful Telugu audience the world over. Thank you for this acceptance, this recognition and appreciation. I’m grateful and humbled everyday by your love.”
Unfortunately, Dulquer himself couldn’t be a part of the event, and had mentioned and thanked the members who accepted the honor on his behalf, “Lastly I think Nagi, Swapna, Priyanka, Hanu Sir, and Venky all holding my award in my absence is poetic. Because without this wonderful lot, none of this would have been possible.”
