Jalna: BJP MLA Babanrao Lonikar Alleges ₹100 Crore Scam In Compensation For Rain-Affected Farmers

MLA Babanrao Lonikar has alleged a scam of nearly Rs 100 crore in the distribution of compensation to farmers affected by unseasonal rain in Jalna district. He claimed that funds were disbursed in the names of bogus farmers across Ambad, Ghansavangi, Jafrabad and Bhokardan talukas, and directly accused the sub-divisional officers and tehsildars of Ambad and Bhokardan of involvement.

The allegations were made during a meeting of the District Planning Committee, chaired by Guardian Minister Pankaja Munde, on Saturday. Lonikar said that while farmers suffered extensive losses due to unseasonal rainfall, corrupt practices by officials added to their distress. “It is like scratching their wounds,” he said, demanding that the embezzled amount be recovered and that those responsible be punished following a thorough inquiry.

Referring to a final report by the district collector, Lonikar pointed out that embezzlement to the tune of Rs 34.97 crore had already been identified and that 74 officers were found involved. However, he alleged the actual scam amount was closer to Rs 100 crore.

He also said he would raise the issue in the state assembly to ensure justice for affected farmers.

Supporting his claim, the Shetkari Sanghatana has also demanded a detailed inquiry into the alleged irregularities.
