UPI Service: A big change will be seen in UPI (Unified Payment Interface) from today. According to the circular of NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India), the response time for UPI API (Application Programming Interface) such as checking transaction status and transaction reversal has been reduced from 30 seconds to just 10 seconds. Apart from this, the response time for Validate Address (Pay, Collect) UPI API has been reduced from 15 seconds to 10 seconds.
Better transaction experience than before
The new change will benefit payment service providers like PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm along with remitter banks, beneficiary banks. With quick response time, UPI users can expect a better transaction experience than before as the turnaround time to reverse a failed transaction or check payment status will now be significantly reduced. For this, users had to wait for 30 seconds earlier, but now this work will be done in just 10 seconds.
Members should make necessary changes in the system
NPCI said in the circular, ‘The purpose of the changes made in UPI is to improve the user experience. Members have to ensure that the responses can be handled within the revised time. Also, if there is any dependency / configuration change on the members from the partner or merchant, then that should also be taken care of.’
More changes will be seen soon
According to a circular dated May 21, 2025, the UPI system is set to implement other major changes from August. The circular states that PSP banks and/or acquiring banks will ensure that all API requests sent to UPI are monitored and moderated for proper usage. After the implementation of the new guidelines, you will see changes in balance inquiry, list account and autopay mandate execution.
