3 Akali leaders join Congress in Punjab

Three SAD leaders — Rajinder Deepa from Sunam, Sarbjot Singh Sabi and Anil Thakur from Mukerian — joined Congress today.

Deepa, who is AAP Punjab chief Aman Arora’s brother-in-law, had left Congress to join SAD in 2018. He returned to Congress on Monday.

They were inducted into the party by the Punjab Congress general secretary in-charge Bhupesh Bhagel in the presence of the PCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa and other senior party leaders.

Bhagel said it was a welcome development for the Congress as an atmosphere was prevailing across Punjab that the Congress is coming back.

Warring said the writing is on the wall that the Congress is coming back. He disclosed that several leaders from other parties were in touch with him and wanted to join the party. He said they will soon be inducted into the party. “This is just the beginning as the winds of change have started blowing in Punjab,” he said, while adding that people of the state were fed up with the current AAP regime.

Partap Singh Bajwa said that all the three leaders have immensely contributed towards public service. He added that they will all prove to be of great strength for the party.
