No power, no water: Residents block Airport Road in protest

Residents of the district are facing four to six hours of power cut daily. The erratic power supply has also affected water supply, leaving residents helpless.

Due to continuous power cuts for the past two weeks, residents have stared protesting against the administration and PSPCL officials in many pockets of the district.

Residents of Sohana village and local SAD leaders today staged a sit-in to block the Airport Road. “There is no water or electricity in the village. We are living in hell-like conditions for more than a week now, but no one is bothered. The AAP government and PSPCL officials have failed to provide basic necessities to people,” said SAD leader Parvinder Singh Sohana.

Nambardar Harvinder Singh, councillors Sucha Singh Kalour and Harjinder Kaur, former Sarpanch Gurdeep Singh, Charanjit Kaur, Balbir Kaur, Harpreet Singh, Manjit Singh Pappi and others demanded that Sohana village be immediately connected to the water booster installed in Sector 77, as it is linked to canal water and other surrounding areas have already been connected to it.

Residents of Green Enclave, Sector 116, said they were facing erratic power supply for the past 18 hours.

In Nayagaon, residents said for the past fortnight, the power supply had been inconsistent and taps ran dry. PSPCL officials are unavailable and the administration has no solution to their problems, they lamented.

Facing prolonged power cuts, members of Aerocity G block RWA and residents met MLA Kulwant Singh and asked him to take up the issue with the PSPCL and get it resolved. XEN Shaminder Singh assured of allocating required staff/lineman for earliest resolution.

Kuldip Singh, president of Aerocity G Block RWA, said, “We faced a 14-hour power cut on June 12 and clearly conveyed that if no action is taken promptly, G Block residents will be forced to hold a protest to demand their basic right to uninterrupted electricity.”
