17K challans worth Rs 2 crore issued in a week in Gurugram
The blatant disregard of traffic rules continues in Gurugram as in the past seven days, the traffic police have issued 17,063 challans and imposed fines amounting to over Rs 2 crore.
The challan drive was conducted under the awareness campaign ‘Challan Nahi Salam Milega’. During this campaign, 2,869 challans were issued for wrong-side driving. The traffic police also issued 1,665 challans for road marking, 1,425 in cases of pillion riders not wearing helmets, 1,332 for driving without seat belt, 1,051 for lane change, 992 for not wearing helmets, 741 for wrong parking, 735 for drunken driving, 598 for taking dangerous U-turn, 260 for triple riding, 133 for over speeding and 168 for driving while using mobile phone. The total fine amount of the challans is over Rs 2.40 crore.
A senior traffic police official said the traffic police alerted drivers to always follow traffic rules.
“Awareness campaigns were organised with the help of ‘Suraksha ‘Rath at 18 lcoations. During this, more than 660 people were made aware of traffic rules. In the last seven days, the traffic police selected five traffic heroes, who followed traffic rules and honoured them with certificates of appreciation. Challans were issued to those who did not follow the traffic rules,” said Rajesh Mohan, DCP (Traffic).
