Vallabh college joins Unnat Bharat Abhiyan
Vallabh Government College, Mandi, has been officially selected under the Government of India’s Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) flagship programme.
Dr Tara Devi Sen, Head of Department (botany), said, under the UBA initiative, the college had adopted five villages in Mandi district — Nasloh, Larwahan, Sadayana, Baggi, and Thanaut — with a mission to drive sustainable development and improve the quality of life at the grassroots level.
A core team of faculty members has been constituted to oversee the implementation of the mission. Team members include Dr Tara Devi Sen (Principal Investigator); Dr Deepali Ashok and Dr Suraj Mani (NSS Programme Officers); Prof Anita (department of mathematics); Dr Arvind Kumar (department of tourism); and Manoj Kumar (environmental science Assistant Professor).
The members, along with student volunteers, will engage directly with the village communities to implement initiatives across core themes.
These include organic farming and rural entrepreneurship; health, nutrition, and sanitation; education and digital literacy; sustainable living and traditional knowledge; livelihood generation through local resources; and bridging academia and social responsibility.
Principal Dr Sanjeev Kumar expressed his enthusiasm and commitment to the initiative, stating: “The initiative is in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP), and represents a meaningful step towards fulfilling the social responsibility of academic institutions. It will give students real exposure to rural life and contribute to their holistic development.”
