Yoga for mind & body: HPU launches national wellness training for educators

Prof Rajindra Verma, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, emphasised the vital role of yoga, meditation and stress management in maintaining overall well-being. He was addressing participants during the inaugural session of a short-term residential programme on ‘Yoga, Meditation & Spirituality, Stress Management and Physical Wellness’, organised by the UGC Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre at HPU, Shimla.

In his keynote address, Prof Verma remarked, “Yoga is a gift of our tradition and soil and today it is being embraced globally as a holistic way of life.” Acknowledging the growing health challenges of modern times, he underlined that practices like yoga not only enhance physical wellness but also play a key role in managing mental stress.

He praised the enthusiasm and commitment of the participants, adding that such initiatives by the Training Centre significantly contribute to the intellectual and personal growth of educators across the country.

Director of the Centre, Prof Desh Raj Thakur, in his address, elaborated on the relevance of the programme in today’s fast-paced world. He introduced the participating faculty members and offered insights into the structure and focus of the ongoing sessions.

The programme has drawn 38 participants from 12 different states, creating a vibrant space for inter-state academic and wellness exchange. Renowned subject experts from across the country will deliver lectures and conduct practical sessions throughout the duration of the training.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof Thakur, who extended his heartfelt appreciation to the participants and the chief guest for their presence and support in making the event meaningful and impactful.

HPU V-C engages with top national institutions

In a strategic move to enhance research, academic outreach and infrastructure development at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Vice-Chancellor Prof Mahavir Singh held a series of high-level meetings in New Delhi with top officials from India’s premier academic and scientific institutions.

During a key meeting with Prof Manish R Joshi, Secretary of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Prof Singh emphasised the value of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in enriching the university’s curriculum. The UGC Secretary acknowledged the transformative potential of MOOCs in expanding access to high-quality education.
