Naveen Strongly Condemns Gopalpur Beach Gang Rape Incident, Urges Govt to Be Vigilant to Curb Rising Atrocities against Women

Bhubaneswar: The horrific gang rape of a 20-year-old college student at Gopalpur beach, a popular tourist destination in Odisha, has sent shockwaves across the state.

BJD President and Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Assembly, Naveen Patnaik, condemned the incident in the strongest terms, calling it “deeply shocking” and demanding urgent action from the state government to ensure women’s safety.

“The incident has left everyone shaken. It is strongly condemned,” Naveen said in a statement.

He emphasized the need for heightened vigilance to curb the rising atrocities against women, urging the government to implement stringent measures to safeguard women across Odisha, particularly at tourist hotspots like Gopalpur.

The victim, a student pursuing her +3 degree at a college in Berhampur, was allegedly gang-raped at the iconic Gopalpur sea beach, a site frequented by tourists from Odisha and beyond. The incident has raised serious concerns about the adequacy of security arrangements at the beach, with locals and visitors questioning the state’s efforts to protect tourists and residents alike.
