Redevelopment of Borivali’s Madhumilan Society in limbo! Senior Citizen demands GBR

Mumbai : These days, redevelopment of old buildings is in full swing in the metropolis, but during this time, there is a difference of opinion among the members of the society regarding developer selection, after which the Deputy Registrar gets involved in this matter. Whereas recently, Mumbai Grahak Panchayat has demanded in public interest that there should be absolutely no involvement of Deputy Registrar in developer selection and said that this is the right of the people, it should remain with them only, corruption also comes in the involvement of Registrar, hence the developer selection should be done by the people together.

A similar case has come to light of Borivali’s Madhumilan Society. Madhumilan Cooperative Housing Society Limited (Mangal Kunj), which is located at SV Road, Borivali West, has been built 58 years ago. The condition of the building has become dilapidated and it is very important to redevelop it otherwise it can be dangerous for the residents, this information was given to us by Chandrakant Gohil, a resident of the society.

In 2015, the building was certified as C-1 by VJTI. The process of redevelopment has started in the year 2023, in this society of about 218 families, after following all the government rules, two builders were shortlisted out of eleven builders, which include Sugee Group and Ratan Singh Konark Builder JV. After a comparative study of both, the offer of Sugee Group is big and beneficial for the members, but some members of the building are supporting Ratan Singh Konark Builder and are trying to mislead people. Keeping all this in mind, voting was done in which 195 members voted and the result was almost a tie.

According to senior citizen resident of Mangal Kunj Society Chandrakant Gohil, who is a member of the housing society, he wants that voting should be done on this decision again and this time voting should be done through hand writing system so that no one can deceive anyone, but some members are preventing the election from being done as per the rules.

The Deputy Registrar was also asked for help to solve the problem in a proper manner, but the Registrar Officer was seen supporting Ratan Singh Konark Builder, ignoring Sugee Group which was making a big offer. Some people are conspiring against the committee members of Madhumilan Housing Society and are demanding expulsion of the current members from their posts. They are also harassing them in many ways.

The committee members of Madhumilan Cooperative Housing Society (Mangal Kunj) want that voting should be done as per the rules again, in which the truth will come out. Along with the society members, senior citizen Chandrakant Gohil is demanding GBR. Their only demand is that only the builder who gives them more facilities and the right value for their building should get the right to redevelop the building.
