Karnataka: 10-month-old Baby Dies After Swallowing Beedi, Mother Lodges Complaint Against Husband For Negligence In Mangaluru

A 10-month-old boy tragically died on Sunday in Mangaluru, Karnataka, after swallowing a beedi allegedly discarded by his father. The infant's mother has since filed a police complaint against her husband for negligence.

The victim, identified as Anish Kumar, was the son of Bihari migrants residing in Mangaluru's Adyar area. The incident occurred around 1:30 pm on 14 June when the child ingested the tobacco roll.

Panicked parents rushed the boy to Wenlock Hospital by 3:30 pm, where medical staff administered intensive treatment. Despite doctors' efforts, the child succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at 10:25 am on 15 June.

In her police complaint, the grieving mother accused her husband of reckless behaviour, "I repeatedly warned him not to discard beedi pieces where our child could reach them. He ignored me, and now our son has paid the price for his carelessness." The father, who works as a wedding decorator, could face legal consequences for the tragic oversight.
