Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir who was in Washington DC was heckled by Pakistani diaspora who gathered outside the Four Seasons hotel in which he was staying.
Videos showed the protesters calling Munir a "coward", "mass murderer" and "Pakistaniyon ke kaatil", which translates to killer of Pakistanis. They also chanted "shame on you, Asim Munir" and demanded restoration of "unfettered democracy" in Pakistan.
The demonstrators are also seen confronted by the hotel authorities as they try to gain entry into the hotel.
Unconfirmed reports said the protests were organised by jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan's party Pakisan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). However, PTI supporters were among the protesters as seen in some of the videos.
A video posted by PTI showed a digital mobile billboard that read, "Mass murderer Asim Munir", "Democracy dies when guns speak", "Asim Munir, your time is up – Pakistan will rise!" and "Movement for Democratic Pakistan". In the display, Munir's face was crossed out in red.
Imran had earlier vowed not to surrender even if he is forced to spend the rest of his life in prison. "No matter the extent of the torture, I will never accept subjugation. I will not give in," Aleema quoted her brother as saying earlier. PTI had also urged people to gather outside the Pakistani embassy in Washington.
The Pakistani army chief is in the US for a five-day visit since Sunday. This comes less than two months after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The attack was carried out by The Resistance Front, a proxy of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and backed by the Pakistani army.
