Days after the cold-blooded murder of wine contractor Shantanu in Shahabad, the Kurukshetra police have announced a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh for any information leading to the arrest of the primary suspect, Romil. The accused, a resident of Yamunanagar, has a history of violent incidents and is now the focus of an intensive manhunt.

Shantanu was shot dead near Mina Market on the National Highway in Shahabad on the evening of June 13. According to the police, Shantanu, along with his driver Prince and liquor vend in-charge Aniket, had left their office at Barara Chowk and were en route to another location when the fatal attack occurred. Upon reaching Mina Market, Shantanu asked Prince to pull over so he could buy cigarettes. It was then that two men on a two-wheeler approached and opened fire, critically injuring him. He was rushed to a private hospital but succumbed to his injuries. A murder case was registered at Shahabad police station.

While Romil has been identified as one of the shooters, the identity of the second assailant remains unknown. Kurukshetra police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information regarding Romil’s whereabouts, assuring that the identity of the informer will be kept confidential. Romil is also wanted in previous firing incidents in Yamunanagar and Chandigarh. Notably, on May 15, he was involved in an armed attack at an immigration centre in Yamunanagar and is suspected to be linked to another shooting in Chandigarh.
