Artists capture the spirit of Himachal at Bantony Castle
The three-day Shimla Art Festival, organised by the Himachal Pradesh State Museum at the iconic Bantony Castle, concluded with Chief Secretary, Prabodh Saxena honouring the participants with certificates. The event aimed to promote both traditional and contemporary art, while offering a platform to budding and professional painters from across the country.
Artists from across the country showcased their works during the festival, highlighting a blend of traditional painting styles and modern art techniques. The exhibition attracted a large audience, including art enthusiasts, students, tourists and local residents, who appreciated and encouraged the artists.
While praising the initiative, Saxena highlighted the significance of it in preserving the cultural and artistic heritage of Himachal Pradesh. He lauded the choice of venue and said that organising such a creative event at the historically significant Bantony Castle added value to the festival’s spirit. He also expressed hope that similar events would be held more frequently.
During the closing ceremony, he also viewed the paintings on display, lauded the artists’ efforts and honoured them with certificates.
The central theme of the festival was “Himachal’s Cultural Heritage and Natural Beauty.” Artists depicted the state’s rich traditions, picturesque landscapes and historic heritage through their art.
Out of around 800 applications received nationwide, a panel of experts selected 15 artists from across the country and five artists from the state to exhibit their work. Additionally, the open category saw participation from 450 individuals, including 15 local school students, 40 fine arts college students and 20 students from the Himachal Pradesh University.
