DMRC signs MoU with Monash University for joint metro rail research

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Monash University, Melbourne (Australia), to jointly undertake advanced research in metro rail systems. The collaboration, facilitated through Monash’s Institute of Railway Technology (IRT), was formalised at a ceremony held at Metro Bhawan on Tuesday in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.

The MoU outlines cooperation in key areas such as automation of rolling stock, track maintenance and technology exchange. It also opens doors for academic and research exchange programmes between Monash University and the DMRC Academy, which will serve as the knowledge and training partner for all collaborative activities.

Under the agreement, DMRC will identify research projects related to metro systems that can be pursued with IRT under specific contractual terms. The partnership will also explore further avenues in technical collaboration and capacity building for metro engineers.

“This MoU marks a significant leap in DMRC’s global partnerships, especially with one of the world’s most respected institutions in railway technology. The collaboration is expected to improve operational efficiency, safety and overall passenger experience,” the DMRC said in a press statement.

The partnership is poised to create new opportunities for innovation in metro rail systems, with a focus on enhancing reliability and sustainability in operations.
