The Iran consulate in Hyderabad has appealed to civil society and peace-loving groups to condemn Israel military offensive and take pro-active steps to halt the ongoing campaign.

Iran is one of the first foreign countries to open a consulate in Hyderabad. Recognising the bond between Hyderabad and Iran, the street housing the consulate had been named Imam Khomeini road. There is a sizeable population of Iranians in Hyderabad who had arrived in the city for trade and business during the Nizam era. Over the years, Iranian influence got integrated into the city’s culture, food and lifestyle. 400 years ago, the Golkonda rulers of Deccan modelled the city of Hyderabad on the lines of the Iranian city, Isfahan, which was one of the sites bombed by Israel as a nuclear centre is located there.

“All justice-advocating UN member states and peace-making groups are expected to clearly condemn the criminal acts of aggression and take urgent collective measures to stop this reckless behaviour, ensuring that attacks on nuclear sites—potentially catastrophic for the world—are not normalised,” read the statement.

The Consulate said that in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, Iran has legitimate legal rights to respond and defend and hence launched “True Promise 3” operation.

“In addition to documented atrocities and committing genocide in Gaza, the regime's aggression has expanded to Iran by attacks against Natanz nuclear site, assassination of nuclear scientists and chief military commanders in residential areas, along with their families. In the recent 4 days, Israeli regime deliberately targeted residential areas, Hakim Children Hospital, Farabi Hospital, ambulances, aid groups, and most recently, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting,” according to the statement.

Meanwhile, Andhra and Telangana have started helplines to support NRIs from the region.

The AP government has activated a round-the-clock control room and has published emergency numbers and email. The government said that it is in touch with over 100 people living in Iran and is extending all help to them through. The Telangana government also took similar steps and is operating the helping though Telangana Bhavan in Delhi.
