ATM Money Withdrawal: Now ₹100 and ₹200 notes will be available from every ATM! Know RBI’s order
The objective of the Reserve Bank is to ensure availability of Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes so that common people can easily get small notes for their daily transactions and at the time of need they do not face problem in getting change in shops or banks.
ATM Money Withdrawal: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had ordered that all banks must make Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes available in their ATM machines. Now its effect is visible. A report says that 73 percent of the country’s ATMs are now such, in which at least 1 cassette is giving Rs 100 or Rs 200 notes. In December 2024, this number was 65 percent. This means that now this number is improving continuously.
The aim of the Reserve Bank is to make available Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes, so that common people can easily get small notes for everyday transactions and at the time of need they do not have trouble for loose notes in shops or banks. It will be very helpful especially for the people of rural and small towns.
60% people spend in cash
This information has been shared by CMS Info Systems, the country’s largest company that provides cash in ATMs. This company runs 73,000 ATMs out of 2.15 lakh ATMs in India. This company said that the availability of notes is improving. Anush Raghavan, an official of the company, said that 60% people in India still spend in cash. In such a situation, it is very important to have small notes in ATMs, so that people do not face problems in daily shopping and small transactions.
The company official said that if 100 and 200 rupee notes are available directly from the ATM, then it will be easier for people to withdraw money according to their needs. People will not have to depend only on online for small transactions.
What order did RBI give
The Reserve Bank of India issued a circular in April 2025, which said that by 30 September 2025, all banks will have to ensure that at least 75 percent of their ATMs dispense 100 or 200 rupee notes. After this, this figure will have to be increased to 90 percent by 31 March 2026. This will provide small notes in most ATMs and people will get more convenience in everyday tasks.
Withdrawing cash from ATM has become expensive
The Reserve Bank has made some changes in the rules for withdrawing money from ATMs from May 1, 2025. Now after transacting more than the limit in a month, they will have to pay more charges than before. When you withdraw money from an ATM of a different bank instead of your own, one bank pays an ‘interchange fee’ to the other bank. Mostly this expense is recovered from the customers. Now this fee has also been changed. The transaction limit has also been reduced.
How much will be the charge now?
Now if you withdraw cash from the ATM after the limit, you will have to pay a charge of Rs 19 per transaction, which was Rs 17 earlier. If you do a non-financial transaction like checking balance, then a charge of Rs 7 will be levied on it, which was Rs 6 earlier. But this charge will be levied only when you use the ATM more times than your free transaction limit.
What is the limit for withdrawing money from ATM?
If you live in big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore or Hyderabad, then you can do 3 free transactions from another bank’s ATM every month. But if you live in non-metro or small cities, then this limit is 5 times. If the transaction is not completed due to lack of money in the ATM or due to technical problems, then it will not be included in the free transactions and no charge will be levied on it.
