Air India Cuts 15% Of International Flights On Widebody Aircraft; Details Inside

Air India has announced a temporary reduction of 15 per cent in its international wide-body operations. This curtailment, effective immediately, will continue through June 20 and likely extend into mid-July.

The airline stated that this move aims to bolster reserve aircraft availability and ensure contingency preparedness. “This effectively adds to our reserve aircraft availability to take care of any unplanned disruptions,” the company said in an official statement.

The decision was driven by the need to stabilize operations and enhance efficiency, while minimizing inconvenience to passengers. “It is done to restore operational stability, and to minimise last-minute inconvenience to passengers,” the statement read.

Passenger-Focused Measures

To mitigate the impact of reduced flight availability, Air India assured passengers of proactive communication and flexibility in travel arrangements. Affected travelers will be offered free rescheduling or a full refund, as per their preference. The updated international flight schedule, effective from June 20, 2025, will be released soon.

“We apologise to the passengers affected due to these curtailments,” Air India stated, underscoring its commitment to supporting customers through this transition.

Enhanced Safety And Inspection Drive

In cooperation with aviation authorities, the airline has undertaken a rigorous safety inspection of its Boeing 787-8/9 fleet. Of the 33 aircraft, 26 have passed inspection and been cleared for service. The remainder are expected to complete checks in the coming days.

Air India has also committed to enhanced safety inspections of its Boeing 777 aircraft, reaffirming that passenger and crew safety remains its utmost priority. “We will continue to cooperate with the authorities… to ensure the safety of our passengers, our crew and our aircraft,” it stated.

Support For Families And Ongoing Investigation

The airline, alongside the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Government of Gujarat, is extending assistance to the families of the deceased and the injured in the tragic accident involving Flight AI 171 that claimed 241 lives. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) leading the probe.
