The Pagoda of Fogong Temple in Shuozhou, Shanxi Province, has become home to the local cats. This pagoda is said to be the oldest and tallest wooden structure in China and is considered one of the Four Great Pagodas.

It has been said that for thousands of years the pagoda has not been harmed by rodents, insects, mice or birds. These cats have taken the internet by storm with their attention seeking tactics and effortless aura. Locals and staff from the tourist place began calling them the “Pagoda Guardian Cats,” and tourists now visit not only for the architecture, but also to spot these furry protectors.

To thank these cats for guarding the site for generations, a company in Mainland China custom-made a large, creative outdoor cat house for these guardian cats, modeled after the Pagoda of Fogong Temple. It is three stories high, providing warmth in winter to the cats.
