'Sonam Hasn't....': Raja Raghuvanshi's Family Claims Accused 'Misleading' Police As Custody Extended
The brother of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was brutally murdered in Meghalaya during his honeymoon, has raised serious concerns about the investigation. Vipin Raghuvanshi claims that the prime accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi (Raja's wife), and other suspects are attempting to mislead the police, despite earlier reports of their confession.
According to Vipin Raghuvanshi, Sonam and the other accused haven't fully confessed to their crimes
“Sonam hasn't confessed her crime yet. She and the other accused are trying to mislead the police. We demand that their remand be extended by eight more days. Through further investigation and interrogation, the truth will come out,” Vipin told ANI.
After Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raj's custody was extended, Vipin reiterated demand for a narco test. "Raghuvanshi's brother Sachin Raghuvanshi says, "In 8 days of remand, she (Sonam) did not tell why she killed him. So what will she tell in two days? That's why I am demanding that a narcotics test be done. My only appeal to the government is that a narcotics test should be done on this... There may be more people involved in this case," he remarked.
Raja Raghuvanshi's mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, echoed his remarks as she said, "She (Sonam) is misleading too much. She should tell the whole truth. She should be kept in custody until she tells why she killed Raja."
The District Sessions Court of Shillong sent Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raj Kushwaha to 2-day police custody, and the other 3 accused - Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand to 14-day judicial custody in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case
Crime Scene Reconstruction
The Meghalaya Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) recently reconstructed the crime scene in Sohra, where Raja was allegedly hacked to death in front of his wife, Sonam. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem remarked that the crime scene reconstruction was “very successful,” giving the Special Investigation Team (SIT) a “very clear picture” of the events. However, one machete used in the murder is still missing.

The Meghalaya Police have arrested five individuals in connection with Raja's murder, including Sonam, her alleged lover Raj Singh Kushwaha, and three others: Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand. Raja's body was found in a gorge near Sohra on June 2, and Sonam was later apprehended near a roadside dhaba in Uttar Pradesh.
While addressing the media, Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem shared fresh details regarding the disposal of Raja Raghuvanshi’s phone after his murder. According to the officer, the phone was initially tampered with by Sonam Raghuvanshi.
“We have ascertained what happened to Raja’s mobile phone. Sonam damaged it, and then Vishal damaged it. This whole thing was played out, and also their exit from here,” he said.
Raja Raghuvanshi's murder took place on May 23 in the scenic yet now infamous parking lot near Weisawdong Falls. Raja was reportedly killed by his wife, her alleged lover and three other accomplices. His body was thrown into a nearby gorge in Sohra (Cherrapunji), and was eventually discovered on June 2.
