NHAI to conduct feasibility study for traffic decongestion at key junctions

Out to address the issue of constant traffic congestion and bottlenecks along the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will conduct a feasibility survey on notorious points. The authority will conduct this survey on areas such as Rajiv Chowk, Shankar Chowk and the service lanes on NH-48.

The move comes after a high-level coordination meeting between officials of the NHAI and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) in Dwarka on Wednesday. It was chaired by NHAI chairman Santosh Yadav and attended by GMDA CEO Shyamal Sarkar.

Both agencies not just deliberated on easing traffic congestion but also ensuring non-flooding of highways during the monsoon season.

“The issue of traffic congestion at Rajiv Chowk and Shankar Chowk was deliberated in detail. The NHAI will now study the possibility of creating alternate routes, infrastructure additions and other interventions to improve vehicular flow and safety,” a GMDA spokesperson said.

The authority further added that they had informed the NHAI about a temporary earthen drain that had been set up to channel stormwater from Narsinghpur to the Badshahpur drain. In response, the NHAI committed to cleaning three key culverts at Narsinghpur to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon season.

Flood-prone locations such as IFFCO Chowk, Medanta Underpass and Hero Honda to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk were also identified for urgent attention. “Both agencies will jointly expedite cleaning and maintenance of surface drains at these critical points,” the GMDA spokesperson said.
