Rohtak health varsity rolls out digital evaluation system to curb malpractice
In a major step towards examination reform and transparency, Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (UHSR), has rolled out a digital evaluation system for the answer sheets of MBBS and paramedical courses. The initiative has commenced with the digital marking of BDS and other paramedical examinations.
This move comes in response to the MBBS exam scam, in which answer sheets were smuggled out of the secrecy branch of UHSR and altered to unfairly boost the scores of certain students.
“The new system enables answer sheets to be scanned immediately after the examination, following which they are randomised and anonymised to maintain examiner impartiality. These secure digital copies are then transmitted to examiners across the country, vastly expanding the evaluation pool and eliminating the need for physical transportation of answer booklets—thereby reducing security risks and logistical challenges,” said Dr HK Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor, UHSR.
He maintained that this is more than a technology upgrade — it is a systemic overhaul. “The digital marking system will ensure greater integrity, reduce human errors and make the evaluation process transparent and tamper-proof. We are taking all possible steps to prevent any possibility of any fraudulent practice in evaluation of the exams.”
According to Dr Aggarwal, UHSR will become the first government university in Haryana to implement digital evaluation for MBBS exams. Previously, answer sheets were evaluated manually on-site at the university under CCTV surveillance. That system has now been replaced to plug critical security gaps, he added.
“We believe this innovation will accelerate result processing timelines, improve evaluation accuracy and provide a standardised platform for assessors. The digital evaluation initiative is part of UHSR’s broader mission to modernise examination systems, improve result timelines and restore public trust in academic assessments,” claimed Dr Aggarwal. The V-C further emphasised his commitment to plugging loopholes, if any, in the examination system and implementing necessary reforms to strengthen it.
