A day before yoga day, little yogis in Himachal roll out their mats

In a delightful celebration of International Yoga Day, the youngest learners of DAV Centenary Public School (DAVCPS), Mandi, turned their school campus into a sanctuary of energy, joy and mindfulness. The event brought together students from Nursery, LKG and UKG, who participated in a special yoga session that showcased not only their flexibility but also their enthusiasm for healthy living.

The day was carefully designed to instill in children an early awareness of the role yoga plays in nurturing both physical fitness and mental calm. The atmosphere on the school premises was filled with laughter, excitement and focus as the tiny tots, dressed in relaxed attire, rolled out their mats and eagerly followed the instructions of their yoga guides. Each section of the kindergarten presented a unique set of yoga poses, making the celebration as diverse as it was inspiring.

The LKG Oak students displayed strength, balance and composure through poses like the warrior pose, tree pose and cow pose. The LKG Palm students filled the air with cheerful energy as they performed the sun pose, star pose and chair pose. Meanwhile, the LKG Ashoka students brought grace and concentration to the mat with their performance of the hand-to-toe pose, prayer pose and triangle pose.

From the UKG Tulip and Lily sections came a heartwarming sequence that beautifully blended imagination with movement. Students mimicked elements of nature as they moved through the butterfly pose, giraffe pose and snake pose, before transitioning into the water and sunshine pose. They concluded with a symbolic journey — starting as a seed, growing into a bud and finally blossoming into a flower — highlighting the rhythm of growth and the essence of life itself.

The celebration wasn’t just about movement; it was about teaching children the importance of finding inner calm in a fast-moving world. The school’s Higher Education Branch also observed the day with a yoga workshop led by Sachin, a certified instructor from the Art of Living Foundation. Senior students were guided through a series of yoga practices focusing on breath, posture and mindfulness. Principal KS Guleria actively participated in the session, leading by example.

In his address, the Principal praised the young students for their discipline and spirit. He spoke passionately about the lifelong value of yoga, saying, “Yoga not only keeps the body strong and flexible but also calms the mind and promotes holistic well-being. It’s a gift we must nurture from a young age.”

The event concluded on a serene note with a moment of collective silence and deep breathing, leaving the children visibly relaxed and content. Parents and teachers alike applauded the initiative, appreciating the school’s commitment to blending education with wellness.
