'First Roar' teaser out: Thalapathy Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' to release on THIS date

The makers of Thalapathy Vijay's latest film 'Jana Nayagan' on Sunday released the much-anticipated “First Roar” trailer, on the occasion of the reputed actor's 51st birthday.
The film is slated for a grand worldwide release on January 9, 2026, which comes at around the festive season of Makar Sankranti and Pongal.
“Happy Birthday Lion,” declared production house KVN Productions in an X post at midnight, that quickly garnered comments from hordes of eager fans.
The teaser—elevated by Anirudh Ravichander's music—features Vijay sporting a police outfit with a sword by his side, and striding forth royally. In barely half an hour after its release, the trailer had already garnered almost 7 lakh fans, excited to get a glimpse of the actor's last project.
The film has been touted as Vijay's last film before his full-fledged entry into politics, which makes it extra special for fans. It has also been rumoured that he would be singing a special tribute song—titled 'One Last Song'—packed with nostalgic moments including film references and dialogues from his long career. However, the makers have not yet confirmed this.
The film went on floors in October 2024, but the makers have so far been tight-lipped about the storyline.
It was only two days ago that KVN Productions released the announcement poster for the film, featuring a silhouette of Vijay (obscuring his outfit) standing above the masses.
“A lion is always a lion,” the X post—also released at midnight—said, amassing fan comments in the thousands.
Helmed by H. Vinoth in his first collaboration with the superstar, the film features a stellar cast: Pooja Hegde opposite Vijay, along with 'Premalu'-fame Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain.
